Issue II

The Girl

Fajar Zakhri

They asked us who the girl is in our relationship

To which you replied, "I don't know what you guys are talking about"

And I muttered, "I know very well where this conversation is going.

Do you reckon we let them know or smile politely and let it go?"

Your hands started pacing around the table nervously

Your smile wasn't very polite

It was bordering on disgust

I placed my hand on yours

And casually I said,

"We both are,

but there really is none"

They laughed in disbelief

Their laughter served as a reprieve

A bridge between the lack of understanding

And the persistent urge of curiosity

Silently I was praying that they would see

The girl in you and the girl in me

The boy in you and the boy in me

Whoever said there is more than meets the eye

They should have taken into consideration

That the mind should not cheat on the sight

That the tool to urinate does not model itself

On what goes on in the head

Sometimes you just want to pee

I excused myself to the bathroom

Not coming back to the table any time soon
